oil pressure

it seems like my oil pressure is good. so i put new rod bearings to stop the slight knock that it would make only when u would start it on a cold day, and only for a few seconds. the old bearings were bad so i thought that wouls stop the knocking. i thought wrong . started it up the next morning and still had a little knock after i put the new bearings in.any answers would help alot thanks

Re: oil pressure

see if you can borrow a dealer service manual and check the section on oil pressure. i have the specs for 7thgen but not 6thgen.

Re: oil pressure

should be running below 12PSI in idle and hot, as any engine, actually. The peak in mine was around 70 PSI in redline. If that's a dash gauge, it's not the right one to test, you need to find the right procedure to test the pressure

Re: oil pressure

+1 you need a special oil pressure gauge to put where the stock oil pressure sensor is. then measure the oil pressure when the car is warm at idle and at 3k rpms i think. if most cars are the same, i can look up what the 7thgen procedure is and post. thankfully i wrote this a while back to a similar question so its just a copy and paste.

okay first make sure the engine oil is filled to the top dot on the stick. jack the car up from the front and put it on jackstands. locate the oil pressure sensor just above the oil filter. unplug the single connector from the switch (it should pull out). with a multimeter, check for continuity between the positive switch terminal (where you removed the connector) and the engine block (ground). continuity means power is flowing between the + connector and the - engine block. should be around 12v with the engine off. just set the multimeter for voltage and put the red prong to the sensor terminal and the black prong to the engine block. with engine off, there should be continuity. with the engine running, there should be no continuity. you can also use a test light for this procedure. if the pressure sensor checks out good, you need to remove the oil pressure sensor and screw on an oil pressure gauge. im not sure where you would find this, but im guessing most auto store should have something. take the sensor so you can match the threads. after installing the gauge to the sensor hole, start the engine. if zero pressure registers, shut the engine off immediately. you now have an oil pressure problem within the engine that needs to be fixed. if pressure registers on the gauge, bring the engine to full operating temp. the pressure should be 70kPa at idle and 340kPa at 3000rpms with oil temp of 176F. if pressure is not within these specs, check the oil filter for clogging and inspect the oil pump.
