Is this 1997 Civic coup any good?

I need a used car and I found a nice 1997 Civic.

Apparently it's a reconstructed title, but the owner says it's her brother's car. He isn't coming back at all and isn't bothering getting the title for it. But she says she has DMV paperwork so she can hand the car over to me, I suppose.

Well, if that works out, the civic itself cost $2000, on 129,000 miles. Looks like a nice car to me. Just don't like the tires at all. Well the rims to be specific.

You think I could invest in a car like this, add new rims, and fix it/shape it up well? I think I can get it for under $2000, it's been on the listings for awhile. I have at least $500 for anything else that this car may need. What you think?

whoa. this car is in great condition (body) and for engine, d16y7 is good for save gas if you tune up in a every while.

i have a similar car to that car. same year and same model, DX. i just need to look for a front bumper, hood, and headlight lol.. you can get a new titles on the car if you can afford. i would say its worth time if you want a car thats best gas. then go for it

The body looks pretty good as I can see, but looks can be deceiving. Insurance companies are pretty strict on salvage title cars also. You will have a difficult time finding an insurance company that will give you basic coverage. If you're looking for a parts car, its a good deal. If you are looking for something to drive, I would avoid salvage titles. Really think hard before you buy this vehicle. The salvage title will follow the vehicle always. Me personally I wouldn't get it, but its all up to you, Your pretty much taking a gamble on a salvage title car.

you have no idea how many things could be wrong with it. the last thing i would use to judge a car is the outside shell.

You're right, never judge a car by its looks. It's actually a reconstruct title, which makes one wonder what happened to the car.....

It must be really cheap for a reason.

I've seen running cars with clean titles for less... a lot less. I'd definitely pass, unless she's willing to take less than $1000 for it. It wouldn't be lowballing, either. Unless she has a written statement from a certified mechanic saying it's safe to drive I wouldn't touch it.
