Driver Side Power Window Struggles Despite New Motor

Hi everyone,

I replaced my original 1998 Civic LX power window motor last year (200,000 miles) as the cable frayed. About a year later, and the replacement motor seemed to be burning out (slow and struggling when rolling window up) so I decided to buy and install a new motor/track (Dorman, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...00_i00_details).

Now that I have the new motor/track in, the window is still struggling when it nears complete closure and when it first starts to roll up. I'm expecting it will last less than a year too, unless I figure out what's impeding it. I added vasoline to the rubber tracks and it's helped a bit, but I'm wondering if there's some calibration I'm missing. I kept the bolts loose and let the track set itself a bit when I installed it. Do I need to do something else?

Here's a YouTube video of it's up/down motion:

Thanks in advance for any advice!

you need to be sure the window glass is aligned in the channels properly. that being said, its near impossible to do using an aftermarket window regulator. i know oem is more expensive, but it is also way more precise. i had terrible luck with aftermarkets not aligning, so they would never roll properly and the motor would burn out.

I wish I would have known before buying this one. Live and learn.

yeah i went thru 3 different brands of aftermarket (under warranty) and finally ended up just unplugging the rear windows so at least the window will stay up. the oem was $500 and wasnt worth it for an older car, esp the rear windows.

Re: Driver Side Power Window Struggles Despite New Motor

Thank you all for the feedback!

Looks like this one is going back in the box and headed back to Amazon. I'll have to check out Majestic or swing by my Honda dealer for the real deal.

Thanks again!

Did you get a new regulator along with the motor? I bought pretty much the same thing (but I also got the regulator) and installed it in 3 of my doors and they roll up and down like butter.

The kit included the regulator too.

I bought an OEM model and the difference is incredible. Thank you all for the advice. The window is working fine now and so much quieter than the aftermarket regulator.
