My civic gets 18 MPG!?
My civic gets 18 MPG!?
Hey guys,
1st time over here at this forum, Im just looking for some guidance.
I'm stationed over in Okinawa Japan, and have got myself a 1997 honda civic ferio 4 door.

Its a good car, I've always had good luck with hondas, the last one I had had almost 300k miles on it and ran like a champ. I know the engines a 4banger, I just don't know how many liters it is, or what model of transmission is on it.
heres the engine.

Anyways, I did the math and I'm getting roughly about 18 miles per gallon. Yeah, the gasoline sucks here, 86 octane, yuck, but it still should be getting a little better than that.
Anyways, I'm open for suggestions, so far I could think of the swapping out the fuel filter, spark plugs/wires and the fuel injectors, not sure what else? Also, could someone tell me which engine I'm running? as far as liters?...
EDIT: heres something interesting, it says I got a d15b engine, for the life of me I cant find an option for that engine on Kragen or autozone.com... any other engines that are interchangeable with parts?
I've been having some fluctuating RPMs when I've been parked lately, I'll be taking the IACV out shortly and clean it.
Thanks,
Jon

o Bore and Stroke : 75 × 84.5 mm (3.0 × 3.33 in)
o Compression : 9.2:1
o Power : 103 hp (77.23 kW, 105 PS) at 6,800 rpm

o Rev limiter : 7,200rpm
o Valvetrain : SOHC (4 valves per cylinder)
o Fuel Control : Twin carburetor/fuel injected
I don't know about interchangeable parts but, i do know you have what some consider the "small engine" and everybody swaps to a bigger displacement engine.
Do all the routine maintenance (fuel filter, air filter, oil change, plugs) and see if the fuel economy improves. Maybe try some octane booster. If none of that works try a top end cleaner like seafoam to clean out any carbon deposits.
Definitely clean the IACV and FITV. If that doesn't fix the idle issue then try adjusting the idle with the screw on the throttlebody.
