1996 1.4 i buy advice
Hi,
I've never had a car, and don't have a lot of money for one. But I would like a civic, and found a '96 one, 217k km (135k miles), 1.4i for approx. EUR 900 ($ 1320). Some pics here. In the add it says that it's all original, there's no rust and is very economical. The problem is that the guy selling it said it consumes a lot of oil, like 1L per 200 km (125 miles), and it smokes. I forgot to ask what color the smoke is. He said that he's going to add some additives and let me know if there's an improvement or not. Now, I did search the symptoms and found out that the high oil consumption can be caused by a bad head gasket or piston rings, but now I wouldn't afford to make these repairs. And anyway, I don't know much about these things. I like how the car looks, but I don't know what to do. Any advice?

Re: 1996 1.4 i buy advice
well i personally own one of these cars and they're great when everything is in working order, my suggestion to you is request that the seller have a mechanic take a look at it before you by. head gaskets are too difficult of a problem and can be fixed with proper knowledge. it could be an oil leak from the pan, if thats the case then it could be a more costly fix. get more info before you buy. other than that the car looks amazing and if its a quick fix its a good buy
