Straight Pipe or Cat?

Hey, I have a 2000 1.6 DX coup with a collapsed catalytic converter. I am torn between replacing it or just leaving it off all together. My hesitation is that I don't want it to sound anymore like a rice rocket. How much of a difference will it make in the overall sound?

Re: Straight Pipe or Cat?

Hmm... your not worried about the environment? That's the problem when you get rid of the cat you pollute a lot more.. it's not really a sound thing it's for pollution control. Not sure where you live but if there are any kind of emission tests your car will fail without a cat...

Re: Straight Pipe or Cat?

I second that, I can't condone removing a cat altogether.

I would add a high flow universal cat.

Here is the link:

http://www.dezod.com/pd_random_technology_hiflow.cfm

couple that up with a megan header off ebay and you should be good to go. If you want a higher quality header you can go with DC but its much more expensive and the megan should last.

Re: Straight Pipe or Cat?

i think the sound is more of how big and what kind of catalytic converter you get
