Does it have any looseness to the steering or is it just easier to turn?

Re: why would my steering have became loose?

Did you recently air up the tires? Meaning you may have over-inflated the tires.

Check the tires for wear. If worn in the middle they're over-inflated. If worn on one side or scalloped then something in the suspension needs replacing and that's the cause (less surface hitting the road).

Check to see if the wheels wiggle. Up-down wiggle is bad ball-joint. Front-back wiggle is bad tie-rods.

Only other thing I can think of at this time is the rack gear and/or pinion gear is worn and needs to be replaced. Post back with results and we can go from there.
