Compression testing...
I attempted to do a compression test on my d16y8 and when i was done i had surprisingly high numbers:
dry: 180, 180, 195, 190
wet: 190, 195, 200, 200
Car has 134k miles. When i did this i had one of my friends crank the engine until i saw the needle stop moving and it took anywhere between 3-5 seconds. We disconnected the ignition and removed the spark plugs and while cranking, he was holding the brake pedal down so no fuel was sent to the engine.
I would like to know if we did this right (cranking till the needle stops moving) and what the normal compression for my engine is. I tried to researched how long the crank has to be turned but everyone has a different opinion.
Thanks

Re: Compression testing...
Yeah, till the needle stops is fine. Usually a 5 count will do.
Don't know proper psi for your model, sorry. All the cylinders are within 10 psi of each other so you should be fine.

Re: Compression testing...
more than likely carbon buildup on the pistons and combustion chamber is causing higher compression. if the car drives fine, i wouldnt worry. i think around 140psi is normal. wouldnt hurt to do an auto-rx.com treatment in the oil.
Re: Compression testing...
if you can look through your spark plug holes and see carbon build up or if you think you have carbon build up i would go and get an injector cleaning. the **** they run through the injectors is real good for cleaning up carbon deposits and it could pro-long the life of your engine. thats just me tho, i would rather the engine run normal and sluggish then with higher compression then it was designed to take
Re: Compression testing...
. Don't mean to get off topic, but how do i get rid of the carbon buildup? I tried some fuel additive (I think it was Lucas) but it didn't seem to work. I also drive under 3k rpm most of the time to save gas and i know that causes more carbon buildup.
Thanks

Re: Compression testing...
just follow the auto-rx treatment schedule (3-5k miles with the additive, then change oil again and drive another 3-5k for rinse). youll be amazed how much faster the car feels.
