Need advice on my new (used) 2000 Civic EX!
Need advice on my new (used) 2000 Civic EX!
So I bought a 2000 Civic EX today. 83K, sedan, $4000 OTD. It's in fine shape mechanically, but it does need a bit of work cosmetically.
1. The original steering wheel started to deteriorate (probably from too much sun exposure) so the previous owner had put on a leather cover. However, I hate the thing. It added a ton of bulk, and it made my hands sweat. I was looking at either this or this for a replacement. Advice?
2. I'm looking at a replacement keyless entry remote on eBay. I don't know if I need A269ZUA101 or A269ZUA106, since the dealer didn't include one.
3. The left side has some body damage, due to a minor wreck. It has multiple large dents on both doors, as well as some paint scraped off (complete with rust). I'm looking at getting it completely fixed. What should I expect to pay for something like that? I'm just looking for a rough figure.
4. The seams on sunroof shade are starting to fall apart and deteriorate, so I'd like to get a replacement. Unfortunately, I can't find a replacement part anywhere for some reason.
5. The seal near the windshield is split, so it rattles and drives me nuts whenever I drive above about 40 MPH. Should I just get the whole rubber seal replaced, or should I try to glue it?
Thanks in advance for the help.
I'm a bit new to all this, as I'm 16 years old.
And believe it or not, I didn't buy this car to mod it.

Re: Need advice on my new (used) 2000 Civic EX!
1. a) Get a new wheel at the dealer or here: http://www.hondapartscheap.com/southbay/jsp/home.jsp (expensive) Or try to get a decent one at the salvage yard: http://www.picknpull.com/default.aspx ( cheapest) Nationwide salvage listings: http://www.car-part.com/ (cheap) If you don't like any of those options, just go to the store and feel of the wheel covers till you find one you like.
2. I have no idea, sorry.
3. Body shop usually charges about $500 per door. Might be cheaper to try the salvage yard.
4. Ones in the salvage yard are probably in the same condition. Go to the dealer or the link in the first answer for a new one. Don't choke on the price.
5. replace it. Follow the link in the first answer.

Re: Need advice on my new (used) 2000 Civic EX!
Thanks for those links. I think I may have found couple of suitable replacement doors. I'll probably just go to Advance Auto and pick up a decent wheel cover. I might not worry about the sunroof shade, because a replacement will be >$150.
I found out that the difference between the keyless models is that A269ZUA101 has the option button for the trunk, and A269ZUA106 doesn't.
Can anyone who owns a 1999-2000 Civic EX confirm this?

Re: Need advice on my new (used) 2000 Civic EX!
Describe where it is or take a pic- driverside or passenger? top or bottom? inside or out? Or is it the piece between the windshield and hood? Look under front windshield or hood @hondapartscheap.
Re: Need advice on my new (used) 2000 Civic EX!
As you're looking at the car from the front, it's on the upper right (outside) on the drivers side. It's the seal where the windshield connects to the body.
I might be able to take a pic tomorrow.

I got a few different quotes on getting the damage fixed. The cheapest was $1200, and that was with me providing my own door.
The dealer will supposedly fix it for $700-800. That might be a better route than buying two doors for $300 apiece and having to install them.
Re: Need advice on my new (used) 2000 Civic EX!
^^ That's a decent price especially when they'll make everything match. The dealer will only replace the damaged parts, not paint match everything.
