Odometer stopped working

Hey all

97 civic lx

The odometer stopped working the day after i bought the damn car. Its stuck at 129999 and even the trip odo isnt turning. Speedo works fine.

Can someone tell me what part i need to fix this and give me a place to start when actually fixing it?

thanks

Re: Odometer stopped working

could be the odo sender cable, or the actual odo assembly in the cluster got stuck.

Re: Odometer stopped working

could be jam of some debri like sand or somthing
or the grease made it stuck
take out cluster and shake it
if that dont work then take out the plastic cover and take ur finger and try to move the trip
u can do this while driving and kind of guide it
that is just my idea though i mean i woulda done it to mines if it stop working

Re: Odometer stopped working

I have a 2000 Civic EX. It also stopped last night at 129999. I reset the trip count shortly after and then it also refused to move from 0000. My spedometer continues to work fine as well.

This morning, I tried putting my key in the dash spot for it and pressing the trip count reset several move times. It seems to have resolved the problem and now it works fine again. Is this an inherant problem that will probably arise again?

Yes it probably will, the next time it tries to roll a bunch of numbers over at the same time.

It was trying to roll 5 numbers at the same time.

Sometimes the trip meter can cause it too. and you may notice one number hung a little bit off from straight. Beat the snot out of the reset button if that happens.

Common issues. Deal with it the same way you already did.
