I just bought my first Honda (1998 Civic EX) a couple of months ago an I noticed that when i start it it idles at around 1700-2000 then after a few minutes it drops down to 500 and stays there. It doesn't sound like it wants to stall so im not sure if that if its just normal to idle at 500 RPM.
It does have brand new air filter, wires, plugs, coil and i spent 2 hours cleaning the throttle body and the IACV.

Do i have a problem or is it just normal to idle that low?
And at what PRM sould a civic ex idle?

should be around 700 (+/-50) rpms at hot idle in park. if the car is not shaking or sounding like it might die, you're prolly okay. high idle is normal on a cold start and its just the ecu warming up the cat faster. it will be higher in winter than summer. also the rpm gauge isnt completely accurate. if you plug in a scan tool in the obdII port, it might say 700 rpms instead.

Thanks for the response. The car does shake a bit but its got 130 000 miles and the mounts haven't been replaced. As a matter of fact one of them is busted.
