Question Noob question '99 HX

Where would a performance chip go on a '99 HX? The previous owner claims they installed one and i want to make sure its not some cheap scam one. Its kind of a noob question.

[EDIT]-- Another noob question here, where the hell is the cat located at? Theres something that looks like it in the front of the car but i was told thats not it.

Re: Noob question '99 HX

All performance chips are scams. Your catalytic converter is right below the exhaust manifold under the hood. Part #4 here.

Re: Noob question '99 HX

+2 on the chips, shell out $50 to some kid you meet off craigslist and he'll tune your car to have an extra 25-75hp in 10 minutes with his laptop, no worries about quality either since it comes with a lifetime warranty lol.

Re: Noob question '99 HX

u dont need to remove it or anything
i'd say its probly not chip one way to find out if ur ecu hasnt been open is to check
the warrenty seal if its been broken or theres marks on the screw
then ur ecu has been hacked, if its in it's shape and the car runs like the way it should be and no cel light then ur golden

Re: Noob question '99 HX

Look around under the hood and near the ECU, it will probably be a little black box with connections leading nowhere. Post a pic before you rip anything off, just to be safe lol. It could be just a dummy chip sitting in your ECU, but since they do nothing anyway I wouldn't mess with your ECU circuit boards.

Sometimes they don't add anything, just fiddle around for a few minutes and take your money.

Re: Noob question '99 HX

ok will do; I didnt have it installed so it wasnt my money, the previous owner said he did. He really did a really good job wielding the body kit to the car and modding it, it looks really natural and not all ricey, So i took it that he at least knew what he was doing, he had a couple of more civics too.

Re: Noob question '99 HX

Yea I would check and make sure, if you find anything I wouldnt recommend pulling stuff out that you dont know what it is, i would suggest taking it to a shop and see if they can figure out what it is(if there is anything at all).
