Having some issues with my 97 Honda Civic help!
Hello everyone!
I recently just bought my second Honda. Its a 1997 Honda Civic HX Coupe, automatic. When I first got the car is was great and still is, but it developed some problems that I would like to address asap. Well, when I first got the car it had no heat. This was fixed by my friend pulling on some valve or something behind the dash? He reached his arm in there and pulled on something, and now it works kind of. For some reason it only blows out of my defrosters, and the other vents just blow out cold air? My climate control center seems to be broken as well. The only light that works is the defrosters and none of the other ones light up when I go to select different modes. I'm wondering if its just the climate control unit that is making it do this, but why would it come out cold in the other vents?
Another thing that happened last week is that my speedometer lights aren't coming on. They will work after I drive for about a half hour usually but sometimes they will stay off. All the other lights work on the dash including blinkers, warning lights, and gear indicator lights. I thought it was a fuse but when they turned back on I realized I was dealing with something different. If anyone has any idea I would really appreciate the help because I have no idea whats going on here. I've worked on all my cars, under the hood, and all that fun stuff, but I'm pretty inexperienced when it comes to interiors so this is going to be kind of new for me. Thanks again for all your help!!

id say try taking the speedo apart, like the gauge assembly and check for loose wires. thats what it sounds like. like theres a loose connection somewhere that likes to connect sometimes, but not at others? maybe even bad bulbs?

I've never taken apart a speedo before lol I'll give it a shot....
Any other ideas?

I checked the switch for the dimmer, and I can't tell if its good. I don't know what wire is what so I can't really tell if thats the problem. I did uncover a problem for sure though...I didn't notice but at some point the the lights came back on in the dash, and I noticed a sound coming out of the speakers when I used the dimmer when I would turn it up or down. So I'm thinking the dumbass before me wired the stereo wrong, and somehow crossed some wires or something? Not too sure whats going on, but I'm gonna drive around with the stereo unplugged and see what happens. Let me know if this helped clear anything up...Could bad stereo wiring cause this?

possibly there is a dimmer wire connected to the deck could be causing a short out? also i know the dimmer switches go i replaced mine twice and i had people look at it then they all said the "bad" ones look fine, so i just put one in from a wreckers

The dimmer units are a common problem on the 6ths, There is some electronics in the box thats part of the dimmer switch.
HVAC illumination could be the neo-wedge bulbs have failed ??
Cold and hot air ??? maybe he moved a door of some sorts.
