New '00 coupe owner needs help

Hi everyone. I just got my hands on a 2000 civic si, it runs great. this is actually my 2nd civic my first was a 94 dx. So now the problem I am having with this car, thuogh it is not that big, is my brake lines.

The seller of the car explained to me that the brake lines are leaking. He gave me the lines, and I bought some fluid. Thinking this Job was an easy DIY, I decided to get out my jack and jack stands. Once I got under the car i realized how difficult this was... I searched but could not find a write up for this. I called a shop, its going to cost me $180. I'm sure this is reasonable, but being in school and need to get a new job due to location, I don't have this right now. The car still stops once the pedal is all the way to the floor, and obviously this is not safe. I either want to find a DIY for this, or find out if $180 is too much. So if anyone here knows, please let me know. thanks

BTW it is leaking from the middle of the car

2 words: Haynes Manual (or chiltons)

I don't know if there is a writeup in here, but they have manuals at Autozone and similar places that will give you the step by step with good pics too. It should be a cheap job to perform but takes time and a friend to help you bleed the brakes.

Also, it is very unsafe to drive it at all with leaking brake lines! Do not drive it until you get it fixed or you'll be paying for alot more than brake lines!

autozone's website actually has online instructions. you have to register with them but it's free. not everything is covered but i do know they had a pretty comprehensive write up with pics for disc rotor replacement.

Re: New '00 coupe owner needs help

Hey guys thanks for your help. I should actually get a Haynes, I looked at my friends for his Integra and its pretty cool, has pics and everything.

I think I can do this myself, it actually looks pretty easy, my mechanic suggested not even taking the old line out because I will probably damage the fuel lines doing this. So he said, to attach the brake line from one end, route it through and zip tie it to the plastic cover. I will do this ASAP. however...

How do I know if the brake lines are flared already or not? lol, the guy who sold me the car gave me the brake lines, they look long enough and they already have fittings on them...so i suppose he bought them from dealership?

If he did get the lines from the dealer, do they sell them Pre flared and everything?

They should just bolt on.

He means, don't bother undoing the cover that holds the brake and fuel lines.

So, yes you are right, they just bolt up!

I would get started today, however, I have a new problem... Where the lines are attached to the prop valve, are a bit rusted and I've tried to take them off and almost rounded them off...any suggestions??

+1 to PB Blaster. That stuff has saved me countless times. A necessity.
