Timing quesions

I have a 99 civic dx and I'm looking to replace the timing belt. I've gotten quoted at about 450 to do this but it seems a little steep seeing the engine is a sohc so if anyone has had theirs replaced or knows how much it is let me know. Oh and I don't need the water pump replaced or anything else I just want timing belt that's it.

Re: Timing quesions

Get the water pump replaced also it is very easy to do while he is already in there, but a huge pain in the dick if it goes bad later on. $450 seems fair to me. SOHC or DOHC doesn't matter, they both use one belt and take the same amount of labor. Hope that helps

Re: Timing quesions

Agreed. Replace the water pump. You already have everything opened so a couple bolts and you have the water pump out.

The timing belt kit costs around $150. The $450 is a reasonable fee IMHO. You'll understand why once you've attempted this DIY job.
