Exclamation Things to Upgrade

Im new to this forum and Ive finally gotten some money to fix up my car. I drive a 99 dx and im looking to make this a car that i can have some fun in. It is the most basic model in everything so my first line of action (which im doing this week) is power windows, power locks, remote start, remote locks, and remote trunk pop after that im lost on what i should do. The engine is in great condition i just replaced the timing belt at 111000 and im at 112 now. my ignition switch is going but i found out that i had an open recall on that so im getting that taken care of too. All that stuff aside i was wondering what people would do to the car in my situation.

Re: Things to Upgrade

Swap would be the best thing. Either a b series or a k series will be the best bet. There is quite alot of things to look into on swapping motors. And a tunable ecu will work just fine.

Re: Things to Upgrade

actually i hear that the B-series is easier than the k series for the 6th gen.
concerning ECU, your question is kind of very broad... hard to answer...
first define what you want - if engine swap, the answers might vary for the ecu.

Re: Things to Upgrade

Ya the b series is alot easier to swap in the 6th gen, hell especially since the 6th gen si has a b series.

And the k series motors have put down bigger numbers than any other. And yes they can easily be putting down 240 whp. I am going to swap a k24a1 in my car basically and just have I/RH/E, kpro and vtec killer setup and be running 210 whp and thats on a stock setup. The best k series motor is the k24a2 and the second best is the k20a2. Those are more expensive than the rest. The third best is the k24a1 which is 600$.

Re: Things to Upgrade

i mean i dont really want to spend more than 2500 on an engine so how much would the k24a2/k20a2 be? Im not too concerned with it being a pain to swap ive got some friends that will be able to help with it. another thing i am kinda concerned about is mpg right now im getting like 33 and i like that haha but would i be taking a big hit with a swap

Re: Things to Upgrade

I know a dealer that sells k24a2 for like 1800 shipped to your door and they are legit. After that you got to think it will be bout 1500 more for all the stuff to swap it in. The k20a2 is very expensive. The lowest you can find them is 2500 and the rest are like 3500. And all the k motors get the same as you are getting.

Re: Things to Upgrade

I was reading again. probably if you use the same ecu of the engine that you put, no need for hondata. they are used when you start heavily modifying the engine, to tune it.
there's is also the reprogramming of the chip, but that you cannot reprogram by yourself. most of them is to change the fuel map, same a adjusting screws and changing nozzles in a carburetor. just gorget them if you not modying the engine.

Re: Things to Upgrade

Hey in know this is a stupid question but what kind of problems were you having with your ignition switch? And what was the open recall? My 99 dx hatch is randomly not starting the started when i turn the key and the key really struggles with turning the ignition?

Re: Things to Upgrade

Well I wanted to get the engine first then really start to mod things big time. So this is more of just a starting point than anything else. I font mind having to spend some good money to get me a car that will be reasonably quick. Putting a new engine in it is still cheaper than me buying a new car and I have no plans on doing that for sometime. But yeah my car recently started just dying while I am driving but the radio and lights still worked. I checked oine bs there is an open recall for over 1000000 hondas made around that time. So I went to my local dealership and they took care of it for free. That also helped my engine turn over a lot easier too it had been giving me slot of trouble when trying to start it

Re: Things to Upgrade

Re: Things to Upgrade

Carparts.com you can find them for cheap. There are some car forums that sell them but not sure how much though. And you will not get 240 hp with any 4 cylinder honda motor stock with no mods sorry. The k24a2 has 200 hp and 176 trq which is 178 whp and 150ish trq. The k20a2 is 200 hp and like 140ish trq which is 178 whp and 120ish trq or something. And you do not want the k24a4 you want the k24a1 if you get one of them.

Re: Things to Upgrade

I was just saying get the k24a1 over the k24a4. The k24a2 is the best choice.

I would get a stereo. The engine you have will last a long time. Hondas don't go fast unless you invest an ungodly amount of money in them. It's just not worth the time, money and effort in my opinion.

Re: Things to Upgrade

If u stick with a B series swap, it will fit straight in, on the original mounts. K series u will have to upgrade and change mounts, quite a bit more expensive! its also a bit heavier, so depending on ur suspension setup it might throw out the balance!

Im swapping out my D16y4 for a B16a, been talkin to ppl for 6 months now, they say its da better option, but if u want more HP the K series, but will cost over 4g

Well i was told that a turbo would be too powerful for my car so im not sure what im gonna do with it just yet. i originally planned on having one but if someone can let me know that it wont be too powerful for sure i will definitely be adding one

You can definitely put a turbo on a k20a2 and be fine. You can run bout 8 psi and be running bout 280 whp with stock internals. Run bout 12 psi and be hitting bout 310 whp stock internals.

It will but thats always going to happen if you jump up and good 100 hp. You will just need to get a different set of tires.
