Exclamation Power Outlet Jammed?

I am having issues with my 12V power outlet in my 2000 Civic LX. I was using an electronic tire pump in the outlet to fill my tires. After using the pump after a while, it suddenly stopped working. Since then, I noticed that the power outlet no longer works, and it seems as if it is jammed. When I insert other accessories such as my GPS or cell phone charger, it seems as if they are not going in all the way.

I shined a flashlight into the outlet, and the middle seems blocked by a piece of gold colored metal. I've tried pushing accessories pretty hard in there, but that gold piece does not budge. Is there anything I can do to fix this? How would I go about replacing the outlet if necessary?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Power Outlet Jammed?

you can get a new socket from honda and swap it out. prolly one of the metal contacts broke off and fell inside. see if its a loose metal that you can pull out, otherwise you need a new assembly. you need to take the trim piece off, then the socket pops out from the back.

Thanks for your response. Whats the best way to remove the panel so I can access the power outlet assembly?

Re: Power Outlet Jammed?

im not familiar with that year of civic, but it probably pulls out. most panels are held on with clips.
