Valve cover??? Help

I'm getting a turbo for my 2000 civic ex abd I'm wondering if I should get a new higher compression valve cover(head)
I have a d16y8 sohc block and valvecover(head)
but if I run 15psi would it be a must have to get a new head like a mugen one or something?

Re: Valve cover??? Help

You do not want to have higher compression which can be dangerous with a turbo. Forced induction generally requires lower compression to prevent pre-ignition.

Re: Valve cover??? Help

With a turbo you want low compression not high compression. And you will not need to get a whole new head. With 15 psi you will need to upgrade the valvetrain (valves, springs with retainers, cams, cam gears maybe) and just getting some low compression pistons and rods. But there is also more to it to. Like injectors, fuel rail, blah blah. Just make sure you get it tuned good.

Like they said, there's a lot of stuff you need to upgrade before you slap a turbo on. D16Y8 stock parts literally start breaking once you hit 200hp.

Re: Valve cover??? Help

All answers are correct here. Do not put a high flow cover low compression only unless u wanna sell it to a beaner as a parts car.
