How hard is it to take apart the dash to replace with all LED's?
How hard is it to take apart the dash to replace with all LED's?
I am wanting to do the LED light mod. They look cool, and they save energy. Also let me say that I am no stranger to ripping into a vehicle's dash to do some mods. But is there anything I should know before tackling this project? Is the project large, or small? Is it just a few screws, like my old chevy truck? (yeah right lol) Keep in mind I am wanting to replace all of the lights in the dash. This includes the AC control panel and such.

its not too bad, the only problem is not much room to work with on the buttons. its cramped for space and you have to be careful that you can still press the buttons. i did mine couple yrs back in orange. you do need some basic led wiring skills, epoxy, and some creativity. you can solder the leds directly to the bulb sockets (remember + and - must be correct so test it on the car), and add resistors if theyre too bright. i also used a piece of paper to smoothen the dial lighting. i dont know how long they will last cause it gets quite hot in there in the summer or using the heater, but so far i think 2 yrs and theyve been fine. i used 5mm leds and shaved the tips flat to spread the light better.

Is that how it was wired up from the factory, before you put in the LEDs? If so that's a weird way of doing it. Most others would probly just have little bulbs that plugged into some little sockets.
Also, how did you get the ***** off? Just pull em straight off like on a pontiac?
And what about behind the gauges? I intend to do those as well. Thanks for the reply!

no they just came with couple bulbs, but there was no way it would be bright enough just putting leds in those two holes. so i designed my own method to get the best output and even brightness. the ***** pull out, then the dials pop out, and the rest of the piece comes out from the rear with screws. gauges are a bit more complicated, the newer 03-05 led clusters do not come apart without breaking, older style comes apart fine but you gotta be careful putting it all back together. i ended up just using the newer led cluster to save some work. you have a 95 so its just a matter of carefully pulling the needles off and putting em back the same way. may want to get a spare cluster to practice on.

yeah i like orange instead of the crappy yellowish green stock lights. makes the interior look more expensive lol
and i wanted something brighter that i can actually see. the stock lights were so dim, they would wash out unless it was completely dark.
