Need help with idling problems!!!
Need help with idling problems!!!
I just bought a 98 Civic EX. soon after getting it I've had problems with the throttle (I think). The car has a cold air intake installed on it. I don't know if that's the problem or not..
It had a hesitation when I would first pushed the gas pedal so I replaced the spark plugs and wires. Then a couple days later the check engine light came on and it started running very rough. Worked fine when I was pushing the gas. Spuddered in park with engine running. Spuddered when driving and I wasn't giving it gas. Revs up and down in park with engine on.
Autozone read the CEL and it came up as either the TPS or IAC.
After reading a lot of these forums i did the following:
1. replaced the TPS with a used one from the junk yard. I set WOT to 4.5v. It actually reads 4.56v and soon drops to 4.49-4.50v when holding the WOT. Then I set the idle to .98v.
2. I did the idle learn procedure and reset the CEL.
The car ran better than before for 2 days then the same problem...so I read some more forums and
1. cleaned the IAC and TB with TB Cleaner
2. replaced the fuel filter
Well, it is still doing the same problems, but it always drives great once or twice after I finish working on it. The hesitation is gone when I first hit the gas but it still hesitates if I push the gas while already driving.
I was going to look at the MAP senor next (based off what I've seen on some forums) but I'm not sure which sensor it is.
Any suggestions, I feel like I've done what other forums suggest...
Thanks

Re: Need help with idling problems!!!
hmm well are there any other sensors you maybe forgot to clean? check the ones bolted to the intake manifold. you could also have a vacuum leak in one of the hoses, or a problem with distributor (or even ignition timing).
Re: Need help with idling problems!!!
how do I check for vacuum leaks?
What is the sensor on top of the TB?
Does the 98 have a PVC? If so, could that be it and where is it? I'm used to seeing them right on top of the valve cover, but it's not there on my Civic. Of course I'm also used to working on my (recently sold) '66 Mustang.
