Unhappy 98 Honda Civic Automatic Trans Problem

Hello everyone... My son just returned last week from Iraq (Air Force) and we thought his car would be good to go as no one has driven it since he left last year. Unfortunately, last weekend he had to do paperwork at the base and half way there the car transmission went into a "neutral shift" feeling. In drive or any position it just sets there and doesn't move regardless of shifter position. I put it in the garage and raised it up and changed the trans fluid as it was not a nice deep red. I started up the car after filling the trans and had all shift positions. I went to take it out of the garage for a test drive and it went back into the "neutral feeling". Is there something I am missing? Is there vacuum or mechanical issues I can check? Is there a servicable filter? Any help? Thanks!

i dont think there is a filter you can change without opening up the trans housing. if its not able to drive, sounds like the trans is dead. are there any warning lights like a blinking D indicator, or engine light?

No blinking lights... I do not see any external filter for the trans... Any idea what it looks like? Thanks!
