Rep Power: 0 new alternator for a 97 civic?
So i have a 97 civic canadian model with a 1200 watt amp and a capacitor, lights dim and subs skip beats on some songs ect. and im sure i just have to get a new alternator.
My question is do i need a 160 amp alternator or just 130 (those two seem to be the most common ones on ebay) and are they hard to install? And, should i get it off ebay or is there a better place, or would anyone know a store in Edmonton, Canada where i could buy something like that?

dont but an ebay one. and yes you need an alternator. I have a 300 watt RMS alpine 4 channel and a 1000watt RMS alpine mono powering my speaker/woofer and after i changed the alternator quaility and reliability went up dramatically. the sound is alot crisper and deeper. now if your running 1200 watts (RMS im assuming) it may just be that your alternator now is old and worn out and you just need a new one. I replaced my old one with a new honda OEM one and a new battery and its totally fine now. maintains 14-14.4 volts and dosent drop below 13v even with it cranked at idle. and yes alternators are really easy to change out unless one of the bolts are rusted solid. then your ****ed cut it off. happened to me
