Sticky accelerator

The accelerator pedal on my 97 lx is hard to press and then gives way all at once. Makes it hard to pull away smoothly. I've hit all the pivot points w/ WD-40, at the pedals and under the hood. Anyone had success fixing this? I'm hoping I don't have to replace the cable.
Thanks

Re: Sticky accelerator

disconnect the cable from the pedal. does the pedal still stick? if so you just have to lube it some more. if not, its prolly the cable or you can also spray the throttle body assembly where the cable is. maybe its just gunked up.

Re: Sticky accelerator

I agree with Gearbox...and am guessing that the cable has been bent once. A new one is only $17.11USD full retail at a dealer.

Re: Sticky accelerator

Try cleaning your throttle body before you pay for any replacement parts.

Here is a story about a sticky one and how to clean it.

That's about a Camry.

Here is an article on Honda throttle body cleaning. Its easy and cheap and throttle bodies can cause the symptom you describe.
