1997 Honda Civic Help Needed (Bumper, windows)
Hello Civic Forums,
I have recently purchased a 1997 Honda Civic EX coupe as my first vehicle. There are a couple of things I'd like to try to fix myself so I can save some $$ if possible. Any advice as to how I can fix these problems or maybe some instructions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
1) My front bumper seems to be loose on both side due to the little latches broken apart. Would this require a new bumper or is there a way to fix this?

2) Both of my windows do not role up correctly. I asked someone about this and they said the alignment of the windows are off. My driver side window doesn't go role up to the very top. There is about an inch of window opening and it's starting to get annoying as rain drizzles in. My passenger side window roles to the very top with the guidance of someone pushing it while rolling up. Does anybody know if this can be easily fixed or would this require professional work?
Again, any input would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem with my windows and I was able to fix it myself. You might be able to do it depending on how mechanically inclined you are. You have to remove the door panel, remove the window regulator, and lubricate all the moving parts. My dealership wanted to replace the whole assembly along with the weather stripping for big bux.

Windows are pretty simple to fix, the door panels have several screws including the removal of the speaker and then they come out via snap pins (be careful, wait for a warm day, im in MN and cold days will bust up the plastic). After you get the plastic off on the inside, lubricate all parts of the lift assembly (not sure what with, something all weatherish). Make sure window isnt off the track, a common problem with Sixth gens is that the windows fall off the tracks completely or part way up or down, and this might be why it never makes it to the top on the driver, and why it needs a bit of coaxing on the passenger. If windows falls off, find some way to hold the track back in a more straightened position (ive read on these forums about using a piece of wood as a shim). If the window stays on the track, check all the tracks for cuts, missing seal, or anything that looks light it could gum up the lifting process.
If nothing goes wrong this shouldnt take you too long. I think i got the door panel off, fixed the track and put the window back on in less than an hour. Pretty basic.
As for your front bumper, im not really sure what to do, it may be easier to just get another bumper if you have a salvage yard nearby with your color. Attempting to bondo, fiberglass, or otherwise "restructure" the fittings on the bumper could just lead to it falling off on a bump or something later down the road. On ROCKAUTO.COM you can get primed bumpers or prefinished black ones for about 125 after shipping.

, simple, affordable and with a little effort, unnoticeable.
