Strange violent tugging

Hello all, I have just purchased a 97 civic ex black 5-speed 2 door for $500

unfortunately, there seems to be something wrong with either the suspension or the transmission

it howels in most gears and while im driving, it randomly tugs to the right

it feels like im hitting a huge pot-hole on the right front tire, but the pavement is flat

sometimes its a random small tug, othertimes, at lower speeds its 5 or 6 vigorous tugs.

these arnt your little baby tugs here, this is freaken serious, i pulled over the first time because i thought the wheel was about to fall off.

I jacked the car up shook the wheel down, no play in the ball joints

so the problem is in either the: The differential inside the transmissiion (pulls in or out of any gear) the axle seazing up, or the wheel bearing.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks.

Oh, BTW, which transmissions can bolt up to the 6th gen civic? Thanks!

Re: Strange violent tugging

If it howels when you add power it's tranny or diff, if it howels constantly it's suspension.

As for the tranny ... as far as I know all d-series trannies are interchangable. But they have different gear ratios. D16y8 (D16z8) being the shortest, D15 (out of 6.gen civic) the longest and D14a3/a4 somewhere in between. If you really want the short one try one out of Concreto
