99 civic ex

This is my first visit to a civic forum. I have a 99 civic ex 4-dr automatic with 58,000 miles. It was pristine when I bought it for $9,500 with only 27,000 miles. The vehicle is still in excellent condition inside and out. I only plan on driving this car for another 2-3 yrs but I'm completely bored with the 117 or so hp it cranks out. It runs great, gets regular oil changes at 3000 miles and the only mod I have made is a drop in K&N filter. What mods should I start with to increase hp and torque?

**P.S. This car will stay visually stock on the exterior and remain a "sleeper" on the road.

Re: 99 civic ex

Geez, automatics really rob power. That 126 peak HP that the D16Y8 pumps out is at the flywheel, not the road wheel. You probably are getting like 105 HP after the tranny robs some power. I'd say do a manual swap. If you put on a turbo, you won't see any additional power until it spools up at 3000rpm or more so why bother? Another option might be to swap to a bigger engine to help compensate for the tranny power loss. The usual easy bolt-ons like I/H/E just won;t make a noticable difference in my opinion again because of the tranny.
