Hello all! I went to check out a '99 Civic HX (115K miles) stick shift today. I haven't gotten the stick shift down yet but I know I want a stick shift...lol. Pops took it out for the test drive and he said it drove fine. Only problem is that the clutch needs to be replaced and the A/C is blowing AIR even though the a/c button light comes on. I did some research and found out that the HX has the a/c as an optional feature. Does that mean if a HX didn't have the a/c installed, it wouldn't have the a/c button? The dealer doesn't even know if it has a/c or it's broken, which seems kinda strange. Anyways, can someone post a few pictures of the engine bay and show me where the compressor/condenser/evaporator should be located at? Thanks

Funny, back when I was looking for a car I test drove a 98 Civic HX and the air didn't work on it either.

it's confirmed that the hx doesn't have a/c
anyone know how much it costs to install a new a/c system

For a car this old it's probably not worth it. Go buy a DX or EX that already comes with A/C. It should be your cheapest way out.

well my car is a 00 hx....maybe because i got it like it is in my picture... and build fromt dere but the a/c works fine... i dnno bout it having the a/c button or not...it just doesnt have cruise control... (go to wikipedia.org) i learned a buncha stuff about my car...maybe knowin wa u buyin will help

Do not think HX had A/C as standard. However had a friend who bought a DX sixth generation brand new years back, and the dealer installed the A/C. A/C is one of the most delicate items in cars, and expensive to fix (specially Hondas) Go at least for an LX, power windows and power locks are never a burden.

i thought if there is optional ac installed, they have to change the button to one that says ac, cause before its just a blank one. but maybe for the 6thgen it doesnt have that? idk, its not really worth getting it put in for all that $

The AC in my DX was a dealer installed option. It should be pretty obvious if the car you are looking at has AC installed just by popping the hood. I've never had issues with the AC in any of my Hondas not working, but I had to replace the AC in an Explorer I had owned quite a few years back and it was over $1500.00! Consider the cost of repairing or installing an AC unit into the price of the car you are looking at, then you can decide if it's still a good deal.

Yea DX are optional on A/C too.. I remember i saw my tags under option, A/C which cost me extra 700. But it was worth it cuz i really need AC over the summer or i'll die!! anyway, it mostly just blows air cuz u might need to refill the coolant r-34 or something like that... but i haven't refill mine ever, it still blows cold from Day1 at the dealer.

i have a 00 hx it had ac standard. if it has the ac button it prolly there just needs to be recharged or something id take it for a test drive to the nearest honda dealership n have it checked out
