o2 sensor help

Can anyone describe the exhaust o2 sensor removal/replacement procedure for me (1998 DX)? I hear it is easy and would like to do it myself. I have the sensor in hand as well as the o2 sensor wrench. Thanks in advance

Unhook the battery and unscrew the sensor (the big nut) and then screw in the new one. make sure you pre twist the new wires before screwing the sensor in so they aren't all twisted when it's fully screwed in.

Re: o2 sensor help

No need for a special socket, really.

I believe a 19mm open/closed end wrench will do. But I suppose you'll reduce the risk of rounding off the sensor with the special socket.

No real need to disconnect the battery in my opinion as long as the ignition switch os OFF.
The secondary O2 sensor is on the lower part of the exhaust manifold just after the catalytic converter. If you have trouble accessing it from above. Try from below but you may have to remove the spash sheild.
Unplug the existing O2 sensor from the wiring harness.
Slip your special wrench over the O2 sensor and unscrew it (to the left). Do this firmly but gently. You don;t want to snap it off or crack the manifold. If it doesn't budge spray it with liquid wrench to loosen it. So far I've never had to resort to this.

Re-installing the new one involves following the removal procedure in reverse.
But first be sure to coat the threads with high temp anti-seize lubricant. Some sonsors already come pre-lubed. It'll look like grey paste.

Now I've never pre-twisted the wires. I would think you'd be ok as long as you screw in the sensor BEFORE you reconnect it to the harness.

Good Luck.
