96 civic ex problems...please help!
96 civic ex problems...please help!
No mods done to this car...But all at once the following problems occurred:
1) Cruise control stopped working
2) Car hesitates upon stepping on gas
3) Brake lights won't turn off
Any idea what may be causing these problems to occur all at the same time and how to fix?
Thanks!

Cruise will not set if the brake lights are somehow on. (it thinks you have brake pedal pushed ) I would test the brake switch as a start. It would be likely source of problem.
#2 ??? May be related to other problems.

Re: 96 civic ex problems...please help!
Your Emergency Brake is stuck. Just a little.
Problem 3: The brake being stuck would cause the light to come on
Problem 1: If light is on then the Cruise will not work
Problem 2: If brake is stuck just a little it would cause you to use more gas to get off the line, or would act like it is hesitant. The Hesitation is caused by the excess of force on the wheels caused by the brake. As you drive the rear brake heats up and then fades. This causes the problem to slightly go away but you also lose the rear brakes.

I would agree with CraigW.
I think the brake switch is under the dash.
I'm lost as to where though.
They only cost like, what, ten bucks at auto stores?
Good luck.

The switch is under the drivers side dash. Move the brake pedal just a bit and you should be able to locate it. (the plunger should be held in when brake not applied and released when pedal moves down) Make sure it is mounted tight (it can be moved in and out threads and nuts) Should be 2 wires coming from the switch.

Thanks...I located it after twisting upside down and like a pretzel LOL
Anyone have any thoughts on what may be causing hesitation upon acceleration?
BTW...had major tune about 6,000 miles ago.
Thanks!!!

Just to follow up...upon having the brake switch replaced all 3 problems were corrected:
1) Cruise control started working
2) Car stopped hesitation upon stepping on gas
3) Brake lights turn off
Thanks everyone!
