keyless entry 1996 Civic
Hi all.
The car is a 1996 Honda Civic Lx. I bought this car used and it did not have a keyless entry key fob with it. I bought one on eBay and am not being successful at programing it to the car. The tiny red light at the top comes on when I press a button so I assume the battery is good.
I found the intructions that said to push the valet disarm button beween the tape/cd button and AM/FM button.
After putting the key in II position, holding the button between the tape/cd and am/fm button, the locks should cycle, but they don't... It just sits there, nothing happens. Power locks work fine on the doors. Is there something missing on this car that wont allow it to go into the programing mode? I was under the impression that if it has power locks, and has the factory radio, that it is set to go for programing keyless entry.
PS: Could it be a fuse? Also I read that there is something behind the cig lighter with FCC stuff on it on new Honda's. Does this apply to a '96?
Thoughts?

My only thought is that the car might not have come with keyless entry. If I remember correctly keyless entry was an option. Just because you have power door locks...doesn't necessarily mean that you have the keyless entry module. I'll look further into it and see if I can be of more help to you.
One thing you might want to check is the fuse panel on the underside of your dash and see if there's a fuse in the keyless entry position. It's possible if there isn't a fuse there, then there may not be a keyless entry for the car....just one thing to look at in the mean time.
