00 civic won't start...

my 2000 civic will crank, but it won't start. at first i thought it was the battery, but measured it out to be 12.6v so more than enough.

my car sounds just like this: [autostream]http://autostream.com/ibcivicforums/?page_type=firebirdplayerthumbnail&framepage=1200& transactionid=1330248484-993616432&posted_by=ek9cusco_www.civicforums.com&y outube_video_id=oHLxzVYaUdY[/autostream]

i thought it might be the starter, but since it cranks, i don't think it's the starter.

another thought is i've been having problems with my factory alarm. when i unlock from the remote, my driver side door won't unlock, neither does my passenger side as well. if i keep trying to unlock, it will go crazy and go off.

so lately i've basically unlock and then use my key to unlock the door. likewise the only way to lock up the door is to use my key to lock the door to activate the alarm. otherwise, if i just use the remote, my driver side won't lock, but the passenger side will.

could that be an issue too?

Sounds like a broken timing belt to me. Run a compression test on it. I just changed mine a few days ago. Kind of a pain. make sure you keep a jack under the engine when u unbolt the one side. My jack bled, and it was a pain in the nck to get it lined back up.

And as for your security system, it's probably getting old, and they start to have problems after awhile.

I'm going to sound like a noob. But there should be 3 belts present right? Cuz I see all 3 there.

As for the alarm system, do I just leave it as is?

Re: 00 civic won't start...

Spark, fuel, compression.
One of these is missing.

The timing belt is not broken.
That doesn't mean it is still in time, but it isn't broken.

Take it to a real mechanic if you don't know what you are doing.

Most alarms disable the starter, if they do anything at all.

ok, i did some search and found the PGM-FI MAIN RELAY. took it apart and saw this on the PCB. though i'm not a electrical engineer, but this looks to be some damage.

Re: 00 civic won't start...

The usual main relay problems are easy to check with a test light, wiring diagram, and a little know how.
You check for B+ to the pump, and you see if the CEL comes on at key on.

That's an odd color.
Can you solder?
Retouch every joint on that board.
The odd colored joint doesn't necessarily look bad, but there are a couple at the bottom that look like they may be cracked.
Do them all.

Re: 00 civic won't start...

You can probably find diagrams on line or at a library.

A light bulb with 2 wires attached can be a test light.

If resoldering the relay board gets it to run, then the rest is not necessary.

You haven't yet figured out why the engine does not run.
You only looked online for common problems.
If your wild stab doesn't get it to run....
You need to start at the beginning.

yea, i know what you mean. i'm hoping to try and solve it before having a tow truck come and take it to a mechanic. plus i love to work on my civic.. just never touched the engine side aspect of it.

i'll resoldier it and see if the problem goes away. now just need to find the wiring diagram.

BTW, if i were to use a OBD2 scanner, would that also help me to isolate or identify the issue?

Yeah, the two contacts on the bottom should be re soldered. The rest look alright though, do them all if you really want to but there's no real need to. The brownish one is flux paste residue. You should wipe that off with some alcohol but it's no major drama either. Looks like the board is cracked at that point and someone has re soldered it.
