2001 civic Cx hatch 307,000 miles HELP!

As the title states I have a 2001 civic hatch with a D16Y7 in it. It’s a Canadian Owned it since like 225,000, Got 307,000 with the original motor n tranny. All I’ve done is put a clutch and brake lines in it. Not looking to spend a lot but it’s just starting to smoke at start up and is using a little coolant and oil. Rebuild it or swap it?i need a little more power not a ton it’s as it’s only a daily in norther pa. And if I swap it what’s the cheapest route? What do I need? And about how much I can do my own work just cant find any info on this... thanks in advanced

With 307K miles on it, I'd be looking at a new ride than a motor swap.

i don’t understand the reasoning behind a v8 swap in a daily.. r u saying it’s not worth a rebuild or stock engine replacement?

I'm assuming NDNV is saying that 307k doesn't just affect the engine, but the whole car. Might not be worth putting a new engine in it. But if you're in love with the car, go for it. I love our car's too, might do the same in your situation lol. Obvious choice would be like a k swap.

i get what he’s saying but the car is clean and never let me down I’ve had motor n tranny tore down in my shop before when I did the clutch. was more or less looking for someone to tell me to upgrade the engine and go for it but as I said it’s a daily to and from work so I don’t really need much power or to waste money. just reliability.

Re: 2001 civic Cx hatch 307,000 miles HELP!

In my area that Civic with 300k might be in need of a 2nd or 3rd front suspension rebuild, and many here are rusting away to nothing already (rust and salt belt)....and resale value with that kind of mileage is basically nothing, so most don't want to sink a lot of cash unless the car absolutely needs it.

If it's your daily driver, isn't reliability a factor? Stock is reliable.
DO you think a hacked up repower job is really gonna be all that reliable? (face it, so many are really just hacked up messes by the time it's over)

If it's worth it to you, go for it.

Re: 2001 civic Cx hatch 307,000 miles HELP!

If you can do it yourself rebuild it.

If you have time rebuild a faster engine, like a b18 or K20 then swap that in.

If you can't do it yourself then sell the car and buy a newer used one, since paying a shop to rebuild the engine will set you back over $1,000.
