Normal REVS for 2002 Honda Civic EX 7th Gen?

Hello All,

I just moved from a 6th generation LX Automatic to a 7th
Generation EX 5-Speed VTEC

The car runs great, the clutch doesn't seem to slip, but the car seems to rev much higher than my 6th Gen LX Automatic...

Rough Examples:

4th Gear, 40 MPH....maybe 3,000 / 3,200 RPM?
5th Gear, 70 MPH....maybe 3,300-3,500..
5th Gear, 80 MPH...maybe almost 4,000.

It just seems really high when comparing to my 6th generation automatic.

Is this normal?

Is there a chart of normal RPM's by speed/gear?

Thank you All!

Mark

Sounds about right for a manual trans EX.

If it were an LX or DX w/manual trans the RPM would be lower for a given speed, and if it were automatic trans the RPM would be lower.

I've observed fifth gear, 60mph, ~3000rpm. Everything you posted looks about right

...wait so we have 3,000rpm, I thought we only had 3500 to 6800... That's where my rpm range is always set.

Yep, hold the RPM at 3579 all the time and adjust speed with the clutch pedal and that mysterious lever
