URGENT: Engine oil for 04 LX

Hi all,

I have 2004 LX and has 91k miles on it. I got it when its 88k. Previous owner mostly used Kendall 5w-20 or 5w-30 high mileage oil even the car was around 50k.

When I got it, I changed the oil with Penzoil (not high mileage) 5w-20. So Which oil do you suggest?

I am thinking MObil 5000 (I think its conventional but they say it has blend oil quality)

Should I change to Mobil 1 super synthetic?

I dont know how good kendall blend oils..

Thanks

You don't need to run a super synthetic, much less a synthetic at all. I run GTX High mileage and run a can of Restore Engine treatment with every oil change. I've never had a problem in any of my cars.

I have used Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W-20 in all my vehicles. My honda has 160,000 and hasn't burned any oil but the dodge is a different story.

Re: URGENT: Engine oil for 04 LX

i would recommend 5w30 for an engine close to 100k miles. for oil brand, these days everything is pretty much the same idea. go with whatever bottle looks good to you. any brand will get you to at least 500k miles if you even have the car that long. there are plenty of 20-30 yr old hondas on the road to prove it.

Re: URGENT: Engine oil for 04 LX

any DECENT oil will do. its more important for you to run decent oil and change it in regular intervals than to use the best oil every time.

ive seen engines that last 200,000+ miles on regular castrol stuff from autozone.

Re: URGENT: Engine oil for 04 LX

to add to that, its better to use the same oil brand consistently rather than always switching every time. some old oil (up to a quart) will stay in the engine from last time, and the different brand will have other add packages that are not as effective when mixed. so pick one brand and stick with it.

Re: URGENT: Engine oil for 04 LX

Hi again,

I changed the engine oil today with Mobil Super Synthetic 5W-20.. They say it's a blend oil but according to mobil website it's a low class synthetic oil..
Maybe I am wrong but seems like engine has less vibration when it's idle..

Thanks for all comments.

Re: URGENT: Engine oil for 04 LX

^thats probably due to the newer oil in our engine... ofcorse your engine will run better with fresh oil vs oil that has been in there for 5000miles
