I seriously don't think that my gas tank is 50L

My owners manual says 50L, and everywhere I've checked online says 50L, but every time I gas up, the pumps say otherwise. I recently drove until the low gas light came on, and then I drove about 20km more, then I filled up. It took 39.5 litres. Every time I gas up from about half way, it takes about 20 litres. Is it possible that there's seriously ~10L left after driving on the low gas light for 20km?

Think seriously about what you are asking.
Do you REALLY want to run out of gas only 20km after the light comes on?
I could adjust it so you do.
But I won't.

Yes u seriously have 50L gas tank

That equates to about 13.2gal for us Americans.

At aprox 10gal our gas light turns on and we have about a 3 gal drive before it is depleted.

Re: I seriously don't think that my gas tank is 50L

And it also depends on weather conditions. Since the gas tank is sealed, when the gasoline is pumped in, it creates vapors that take up space. If you try the slowest method of pumping, you will probably be able to fit more in your tank. And it's common knowledge that cold liquid is more dense. That's why it's smart to fill up in the morning, when the tanks are the coldest. The pumps measure volume and not density.

You could run your car until it runs out of gas, pour in a couple liters, and then make your way to the gas station and see how much it takes to fill the tank up. Pump slowly.

I wouldn't have the patience to do that though. And it's pretty stupid

I really thought we had a 40L tank with around 3L in the tube... Hmm... I'll have to check my owners manual

Yup you guys are right, 50L.. which means I can drive another 100+ kms without running out of gas whoo ... I'm at 550kms now and my gas light isnt on !

DO NOT top off the tank. The canisters on these cars don't like that very much.

I go until the nozzle stops. I don't push it further than that. It's the only way to get consistant MPG numbers and I've been doing it for 120k miles

i would keep all the crap deposited in the bottom of the tank where they are... don't want them in the fuel line and filter...

Re: I seriously don't think that my gas tank is 50L

I once drove my car to the point where I filled up ~48 liters until the pump stopped. Not from me pushing it further. So yes, we have a 50L tank.
