I wanted to know if there is a recall on this defect.
My car's seat rocks forward and back, in the same motion as a rocking chair.
Is there an actual recall, or is it just a "safety notice"?
And if it can get repaired by the dealer without cost... is there a form I have to bring in for that to happen?
Thanks

Most likely not, although I'm not positive on that (I'm just a pessimist about companies helping out the consumer after 90 days.. lol)
There is a DIY, though, that's pretty good for showing how to fix it. Don't recall the link, but I'm sure search would lead you to it or someone else will jump in with a shortcut.
Good luck!

i thought about doing this then said forget it. its not worth it at all. ask gearbox, he knows from experience. the materials to do it are about $50 alone, then you have to take the time to do it. he did all of it and within a few days (if i remember right) it was the exact same rocker chair again. its a really really bad design.

just replace the seat with aftermarket. im still looking at some good designs. the oems are trash and there is a safety recall under warranty, but it does not even fix the problem. if you know a welder, have them completely weld together the seat *height* adjustment mechanism. it will not be adjustable anymore, so be sure you adjust the seat to your favorite height before having it welded. i actually like the stock seats so im considering this option. i always leave mine in the lowest position. the rocking back/forth mechanism will not be affected.

Damn.... I remember my local honda site used to have a self fix also... but I just didn't think i would need to save the info, cuz it was so easy to find. now its gone. =/ go fig. I think maybe I'll just weld it. I already have a custom paint job, and no one is going to buy it with the color i painted rofl. Thanks a bunch then

If nothing else, it would give us the part numbers we need.

I'm assuming the part numbers would be the same for the '04s, huh?

No need to get a disk. Here is a link to Honda TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins).

Search for "seat"
Here is a list of recalls (2001)

hilarious that my honda dealership tried to fail my inspection citing that the "seat was not in a study position" . i told them about the TSB and that if it was that much of a safety hazard, i suggest they call honda and get a pre-approval good will repair otherwise give me my sticker. i reminded them that it's been rocking since 52,000 miles and conveniently right after the 36,000 mile warranty ended.
man i wish i had my 1997 Civic
