Turbo, low oil pressure need help!

Recently had turbo installed, installed all new gauges and now noticed oil pressure low at operating temp, 6-9 with 10w30. Shimmed oil pump and installed .065 restrictor. Help! Car has never given any problems. Low oil light does not come on no engine noises.

You have no idea what oil pressure was before turbo and gauge was installed?
What makes you think this is low now?

At what rpm do you see 6-9?
what is oil pressure at 2000 rpm? (hot)
What is max regulated pressure , and what rpm do you reach that? (cold and hot)

Edit moar: got vtec? got vtec fault codes?
Low oil light does not come on no engine noises.

Re: Turbo, low oil pressure need help!

Using an oil pressure gauge inside the car, hot idle spec is 10 no lower and 3k rpm is 50. Im over 50psi at 3k rpm and hot idle I'm below spec. At one point I was reading 0, was using 5w30. I have been told to run 20w50. I have been told to run much higher weight oil due to now having a turbo on a car was designed to be N/A.

Re: Turbo, low oil pressure need help!

I cant look up info right now, but I really dont recall seeing any oil pressure spec at idle.

Rule of (racers) thumb has always been 10 psi for every 1000 rpm, so your idle pressure seems like it should be fine to me. You said you dont have an oil pressure warning light on either, further supporting this.

Your bearing clearances have not changed, a high quality 5w20 should be fine. Unless the turbo is passing too much oil causing some unusual hydraulic pressure loss

Our new turbo engines are using 0w20

You read zero at some point? Is that a mechanical gauge or electric?
Is the low pressure warning light still connected and working?
Was the warning light on when the pressure gauge read zero?

Gauge is electric and no oil light flicker.

Sounds like it doesn't it. I know that the light will only come on if there is less than 1lb of pressure.

Re: Turbo, low oil pressure need help!

Safe to assume you've got a T-fitting on the oil pressure sensor for your oil pressure gauge? No obstructions to the gauge's sensor? Gauge has been tested for proper operations?

Re: Turbo, low oil pressure need help!

Problem has been solved, at operating temperature when gauge was reading low. Burned my hand several times and checked pressure with mechanical gauge. Found to read 19 psi. Replaced gauge with AEM unit. Reads accurately now. FYI, dont cheap out and gauges no matter how minor the part is. Stay away from ebay hotsystem gauges.
