Really hoped my problem was with new cheap-o headers

Just seen this car sitting in a guy's yard for a few months riding by and wondered why it had been parked, so I stop in and he says oh, needs a timing belt and just bought a new truck before I changed it. I thought man, great, a timing belt and I'll have one awesome Honda! He's asking $500 I offer 400, get a tow truck to haul it to Honda place and find out their running a special that ends Jan 1 so $100 to tow and $399 timing belt and two drive belts and new coolant! Awesome deal huh? Well from second to third the trans slips but changed trans fluid so now it isn't as bad, car has 174xxx on it. So I can deal with trans skip and baby it and I'm thinking I'll drive it for three years and get back my money, it is clean and has new tires! Well now it's getting warmer and my troubles are starting. My girlfriend and I are checking out a new tractor yesterday since I saved so much cash on a car, I get back inside and just recharged ac, it's like an icebox in there, I take off and it's barely rolling, I'm now limping home at 30 MPh but one time before this happen, right wen I changed the cracked exhaust header for aftermarket headers, I thought I sprung an exhaust leak and actually I really did, so I torqued it back down its ran great for a month, now that it's hot I'm thinking I have another dang cheap header leak but nope, the engine light has been on since day one so I'm not sure if it is this p1361 TDC valve issue folks have had or not, but after reading those posts I never found a person who figured it out or fixed the issue, so now I have header gasket back off and thinking or hoping it's the pipe below it leaking but that won't make the car act this crazy huh? So I'm apparently dealing with the TDC issue, runs hot with ac on and limp mode starts up. I popped hood and only one fan was running, but two weeks ago I drove 120 miles up the interstate with ac on and no issues, so before I sell this car and go try to find a corolla or another saturn, hopefully someone can help me figure out what to try next.

Re: Really hoped my problem was with new cheap-o headers

My instinct was bad TDC sensor upon seeing p1361. I had a bad CKP sensor (damn those finicky magnetic sensors like TDC and CKP sensors) that I messed up by accidentally over-torquing the damn thing. Took forever to turn over (would crank, but not start for a good.. 5-10 seconds) and felt like it had crap for power. Not the same sensor you're having issues with, but same general vicinity. Oh, and take my experience into account if you decide to replace that sensor yourself: Make sure the bolt that holds the TDC sensor, albeit hard to tighten, is properly torqued down, or at least some blue loctite. Mine vibrated loose and went kamikaze mode on my timing belt.

Part number 37840-RJH-006

$65 plus shipping from majestic honda (hondaautomotiveparts.com). Use code "SHIP50" to take half off shipping cost.

Prolly run you $100-125 at a dealership. Plus tax. Unless you have a laid back parts department dude that'll cut you a discount if you ask and mention that you can get it for cheaper online. My local dealership cuts me discounts when I show them Majestic pricing probably 60-70% of the time.

Also I've noticed that the dealership didn't out my timing cover back on properly, one corner is in a bind and I called yesterday to let him know and told him about the problem I'm having, so now he's gotta remove the cover because of his mistake he said he would replace the sensor for free while he was in there, so I'm gonna hopefully see if he can check it somehow and if it's bad I'll change it The labor to take it off and on is free, the part won't be by the way.. The bolt sticking out from alternator has a shoulder on it, no idea where that should go but wen I forster turn on ac it squeals so it's going back regardless. You'd think, or at least hope the dealership would work on these cars like Dr's the way they charge u, but there's absolutely no excuse to put the wrong bolt somewhere,, I suck as a mechanic but even lacking anything past basics I know that you shouldn't just stick a bolt in and let it go for the hell of it, but for a mechanic at a dealership that's just total lack of give a damn and way too much money to ignore. Maybe if I stir up a stink he will fix the windshield washer hose he broke It was brittle and broke it while I was standing there, he didn't mention it and it was freezing so I just shook my head.
