Confusion and hello!
Confusion and hello!
Hello everyone!
I'm an apprentice mechanic in Canada Ontario, I picked up a 2002 civic SI coupe for 800 bucks off a co-worker I'm still only a first year apprentice so I've been kinda using this car as a trainer I did an alternator and redid all the breaks.
I'm confused about the engine in this car, some websites say this trim level comes with a 2 liter and others a 1.7
what's the deal?

Re: Confusion and hello!
In the US, the Si is a hatchback with the K20A3 (2.0L i-VTEC) engine. Its equivalent to the Canadian SiR.
Your Si is equivalent to the US EX model, equipped with the D17A2 (1.7L VTEC) engine.
That said, if you're shopping for parts on a US-based website, select the EX model instead of Si in order to find the correct parts.

Lucky,
k swaps are fairly easy with these cars, there's several threads about it.
I've been keeping an eye on kijiji for wrecked RSXs that way you have all the parts you need, and can swap to 5 lug as well.
this is probably the most recent kswap thread, has lots of good pictures

Re: Confusion and hello!
k20 swap isnt quite bolt on, but its doable. You'll need parts from the rsx and civic SiR to make it work
Re: Confusion and hello!
Yeah, I'm looking into the swap.
I'm daily driving this beast currently but I might try this in the summer
, I watched a video somebody swapped out an RSX swaybar into the coupe, apparently it reduced understeer, anyone have some simple mod ideas I could do on my day off?

Re: Confusion and hello!

swaps are quite involved, you will also need special wiring, ECU, engine mounts, sometimes it requires cutting and welding

Re: Confusion and hello!
Find a neuspeed front upper strut bar. I just sold mine for $100 and it takes seriously 10 minutes to install. Immediate difference in steering response.
HID retrofit into OEM headlights. Intimidating, but only takes like.. 4 hours to do if you take your time. It is a bit pricey (probably $300 or so), but holy crap, light output for days. Then again, you're in canada, and HIDs don't play nice with DRLs, at least for OEM H4 setups.
If you don't like the red interior dashboard illumination, that's not a hard mod if you have some soldering skills. In my 2002, I originally used kits from ledautomotive.com but ended up getting brighter SMD LEDs and resistors from ebay and used their conversion guides to make my own LED bulbs. Changed from red to blue interior dash lighting.

Driven small hatchbacks forever so I find this coupe doesn't handle corners as nice
The cluster comes out real easy I pulled the SRS lightbulb to pass a safety inspection, apparently there was some kind of recall
