Hi there,

I purchased a used 2003 Honda Civic LX 4dr Sedan but unfortunately it came without the key fob (electronic door opener). The honda dealer wasn't certain if the car came equipped with that feature after all, the person I purchased it from told me she had one before though and lost it.

My question: It looks like the car is equipped with the controller/transponder so I'm looking for the key fob that will work. Apparently Honda discontinued that line

Found this one - does anyone have an idea if it works or have any other suggestions?

It was an option on LXs until 04... when it became standard equipment.

Thanks. Yes it looks like she must have added it as an option so the controller/transponder is there which is good news.

Any idea how I can get my hands on a key fob that will work?

I looked up the fobs for a USA 2003 Civic LX., using a service bulletin specifically for the keyless remotes.
(Honda bulletin # 98-011,, have your local Honda parts people look that bulletin up to confirm the part number I just found)
It is also listed under "accessories, electrical" in the dealers parts catalog.


That bulletin shows Honda part number 08E61-S5D-1M001, which is indeed still available through the Honda dealer parts department.
(My info shows at least one unit is currently on hand in our district warehouse.)

Also, many Honda dealers sell genuine Honda parts online at wholesale prices (check shipping costs first)
