will have to replace either the a/c clutch or complete compressor in the early summer are there preferred brands for either of these components...any info/experience would be appreciated its a 2003 civic coupe si canadian model so its a 1.7liter auto ...thanks lee

My personal preference is to keep the original compressor if at all possible.

You can buy the field coil, and you can buy the clutch and pulley sets separate from the AC compressor if that's all you need, through Honda.

Aftermarket remans are generally a crapshoot. Too many fail IMO--many before their warranty runs out.

Honda has reman compressors available too (complete with clutch, pulley and coil), but I have not used any on this model yet.

thanks ezone the local dealer says they just buy the carquest/denso compressor and wouldnt even look up the honda clutch kit .so just on principal i wont be buying anything from them. i will try toronto honda when i see what i need hopefully the comp is still ok.the original owner said it quit working about a week before he traded it and it was working fine before that so im hoping. trouble is it has 346,000.00kms so its a crapshoot ...lee

I'd do the regular tests first, then if it is a clutch that refuses to engage even though electrically everything is right then the air gap may be too wide (worn), like more than a millimeter. Remove hub, remove shims, reinstall and see if it works.
