How do you tell if a car has overheated?
In the past, and then been fixed?
I mean, overheated too much, enough to damage something.
What would it damage?

I need to buy a new/used Civic. Thinking about a 2005 Hybrid.
Someone hit me on the freeway and pushed me into the SUV in front, so it had both front and back damage and they totaled it, gave me $4,400.

The head gasket going out is a common thing on these 7th gen Civics.
And sometimes people don’t notice, until the car overheats.

Question: If this happened, what would get damaged on a 2005 Civic?
I plan to buy one, so What should I check, to see if it had overheated and damaged something?

the head would warp, you would need to have in resurfaced or replaced,

not really any way of telling.....easily

it might be pushing coolant out into the overflow tank, that is a definite sign of a bad head gasket

yup, easiest way to tell is take it to a mechanic and get them to do a leak down test. and yes, coolant being pushed into the overflow is a telltale sign. had that happen on mine and then performed leak down test just to be sure
.. and it was the problem. just replaced the head gasket and problems solved. head was warped so got it resurfaced also

You are looking at buying a crashed hybrid?
or you crashed your car and you are looking to buy an uncrashed hybrid?


Anything that's been overheated can suffer damage. Any car, any engine.



The 7th gen hybrid uses a completely different engine/powertrain than a regular 7th gen, the hybrids engine does not seem to have the same head gasket issues as the regular D17.

It was my 03 that was crashed.
I want to buy a good 05 Civic Hybrid
