Per other posts, I am in the process of swapping engines due to a thrown rod.

I have the old engine out, and the manual transmission separated from the engine. The car has 165,000 miles on it.

A few questions:

1. Given I have to move the clutch from the old engine to the replacement one, do you think I should just replace the clutch?
2. I have never messed with a clutch before. Any tricks I need to know? The manual talked about a handful of special tools - do I definitely need these? Where do I get them - are they available for "rental"?

1.) I would, since you have it out.

2.) I know you need an alignment tool and most clutch kits will come with one.

Have you seen the clutch DIY on the site?

I have started looking at some videos on youtube on the topic of clutch replacement.

With the engine out you have alot of room. I would do it now. The tool should come with the clutch, at least mine did. Its a good idea to change the timing belt too since its right their. gl

I buy a clutch kit and replace the clutch. It was very easy with the engine out!
