ex to lx transmission swap?

hi, new here but done a lot of reading but no real answers so far. i have an 01 civic lx with a manula transmission and the seems like the synchronizer is going out. mechanic told me it was time for a new transmission/rebuild. happen to know that in my local junk yard there is a 01 civic ex with trany just sitting there. looked up the part numbers but they are different. anyone know if i can still swap them out? and will it be the same?

Re: ex to lx transmission swap?

They'll mate up and work fine. Only difference is the ex tranny has shorter gears.

Are the shorter gears really noticeable?

I think I read somewhere in another thread that the shorter gears allow for "more spirited" driving. Depending on how you drive your car, this may be a plus for you.

Re: ex to lx transmission swap?

yeah shorter gears mean for quicker accleration but you lose out on top end speed. longer gears slower accleration but higher top end. just wonder how big a difference it is on the ex and lx... guess we'll find out. tomorrow ill see if i cant work out a deal with the junk yard guy.
