Inner Pipe Exhaust Crack - Vibration

Hi folks. First timer, here it goes. I have an 02' manual LX. It recently developed a relatively high pitch rattle/vibration at approx 25-2700 rpms. I jacked her up and had a buddy bring the rpms up and it seemed to be rattling right where the pipe comes out of the cat. I unbolted it and inspected and what I found is a pretty big crack in the inner pipe (pipe within the pipe) right at the first little bend. I am wondering if anyone has ever seen this and if anyone has any solutions other than the obvious replacement. Here is a picture. Thanks for the help.

Do you have a flex pipe? Spring bolts where your header connects to your down pipe? And also what kind of exhaust is it? Bought it off of eBay?

Stock pipe. Spring bolts. Comes directly off the cat. Thanks for the quick response.

That's really weird. Make sure all the connections and rubber hangers are in good condition. Does your engine shake more than normal?

It doesn't shake abnormally. Hangers seem to be fine. It just started vibrating one day and although I didn't know for sure if there was an inner pipe that was my initial assumption when I heard it from underneath the car. Sure enough when I looked inside there is that big ol' crack....

Re: Inner Pipe Exhaust Crack - Vibration

That sucks! Don't think it can be repaired. Just buy new pipe.

I just replaced that whole pipe for like $80 from Rock Auto. It's all one piece from the cat all the way to the muffler at the back. It comes with a new resonator as well. Pretty easy to replace. You are half way there already. There are just 2 more spring bolts at the muffler joint and the part drops out. just make sure you order new spring bolts and doughnut gaskets.
