Need Help Wiring Gauges To Headlights (SOLVED)
Need Help Wiring Gauges To Headlights (SOLVED)
Okay, I know I havent posted in awhile, but ive been busy doing other stuff. Anyways, I have some indiglo overlay gauges and always kept them on while the car was running, day, night, and anything inbetween.
I want to wire them to the headlights now, so anytime my headlights are on, the gauges will be on. Like in a normal car. Heres the tricky part, the lo beams and hi beams are a different circuit, and I want the gauges to stay lit if I have either on. Any suggestions?

why not wire them to the park lights instead? that way it will also stay on when lo or hi beam headlights are on. dash light is red/blk wire on the gauge cluster harness blue connector i believe.
Re: Need Help Wiring Gauges To Headlights
Do you think I should solder right on the wire or would that be putting too much load on it? Because the gauge harness wires are pretty thin. I don't know what other approach I would take

Okay I think a relay would be a good idea, so I stole this picture off of a Nissan Maxmia forum about fog lights. Should be the same concept I believe

nah, you don't even need that complex of a system dude.. Just find a wire under the dash that's hot when the parking lights are on and tap it. Hook your indiglos to that wire and you're golden. Make life easier: find the wire that provides the backlighting for your stock gauge cluster and tap that.
Look up the 01-02 to 03-05 gauge cluster swap DIY guide and you'll find the pinout for those connectors.

I'd tap it..if ya know what I mean
But seriously, I wired mine into the existing harness for the cluster...can't remember which wire is the correct one, but just hook up the gauges to the curcuit for the stock back lighting and you'll be fine. I also removed a couple of the old bulbs, as the outer ones aren't needed, so you could also do that if you're worried about the amount of current...but it's really not the much IMO
