Clockspring problem

Hi guys

I just bought a Honda Civic 2001 with 159 000km for 600$. I changed the transmission, the exhaust manifold and everything for the braking system.

But there is a little problem.. When I turn the steering, my horn sounds and my SRS has been on since the day I bought the car. Do you think that I should change my clockspring? I found one on Ebay for 30$ but I wanted to make sure that it is indeed the problem.

Thank you guys!

Re: Clockspring problem

I'm trying to remember the innards of my steering wheel, so bear with me. These may be separate issues.

1) Have you tried doing the SRS reset? I am pretty sure the wiring for the airbag is wired independently from the clockspring.

2) As for the horn. Is the clockspring itself physically damaged? I would look at where the contacts of the center/SRS portion ocomes in contact with the metal points on the steering wheel. Something may be out of alignment, there may be an issue with the horn connection, etc.

Sorry if this isn’t a definitive answer, it’s been a while since I’ve taken my steering wheel off. Good luck.
