~Road Trip~
Just curious who has been on some long road trips with their civics.. how did your car handle it? did you have any problems?
my civic is a 2001 ex sedan and im possibly gonna be driving about 2,400 miles. it currently has 144,000 miles on it.
i need some advice on what to do before a trip, if i should even attempt it, and if you think it'll make it.
thanks for any help

i drove 2k miles one way and then another 2k miles. the only thing with road trips is change your oil and trans fluid when you get there. the high heat of driving for hours takes its toll on them. should also switch to 5w30 oil if its gonna be hot outside. i had some issues on the way back with oil seeping from the pan and also my vtec solenoid gave up. otherwise nothing major. just make sure car is in good shape and pull over to take breaks.

change whatever fluids that will be due before you gets there, check oil and coolant levels, tire pressures, and whatever else you find that sounds odd, i guess.
I changed one of my headlight bulbs because it was starting to get weak - (ah, aim your headlights before the trip.
I do from time to time a TN->SC 400 miles trips, did a TN-> SC->NC once 1200 miles,
TN -> Quebec, Quebec->TN also. No issues at all during them, including one TN-SC with the trans with troubles - later diagnosed as 1st/2nd gear, bearings ans synchros dying, but it still did the 800 mile round trip.

Took my 02 LX sedan from central WV down to the N.C. Coast in May. I believe we put about 1500 miles on her in 3 days of driving around cities and towns looking for a place to live. She didn't miss a beat. Took every bit of abuse I could throw at her. You'll be fine. And, have fun on your trip!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH LOL
you cats have NOO idea of a severly long trip. In the last year alone I have acumulated a total of 56,000 miles driving back and forth from Shreveport, La. to Lewiston, Me. These trips were done with no extra stops except to refuel and grab a bite to eat and all by myself. I can drive the trip in as little as 21 hours if traffic and weather conditions are acceptable. There are roadways in this country that a person can exceed the normally known speed limits by at least fifteen miles an hour and not be pulled over. Also, the average speed limit between certain parts of West Virgina and Louisianna are 75mph without chances of being pulled over. My Civic has 96,000 miles on it and I have had it for 6 years untill I started the tripping of my lifetime I was averaging some 6,000 miles to around 12,000 miles a year not sure how much exactly but it wasn't much. My average gas consumption was around five stops in the travel period of one way. gas would fluctuate its prices and yes it was always cheaper down south.

Re: ~Road Trip~
Dont eat junk food or drink soda while you are travelling. Also stop often to go to the bathroom, stretch and walk around. Dont speed and dont guesstimate on the gas. If you think you should stop, stop.
Your Civic will kick *** on that road trip just remember to take a sufficiant amount of money for fuel and refill as often as you can, somewhere around when the tank meter reads 1/4 left. Never attempt the long distance excerions on roadways that say 240 miles to "Somethingville" because you could run out of gas and be stranded untill morning as a civic slightly modified will get around 300 to 350 miles to the gallon. Well at least thats what I would get. Trust me when i say i had lots of time to perfect this seemingly unbelievable task.
Oh yea bring lots of those disposable baby *** wipes that you can get at Target or Wally' World because your *** will get really sore and that crap you build from eating all that road food will tear your *** up. Jake 3D, five hour energy, and all that other stuff can help. But I would just throw in a big lip gouging dip of Copenhagen snuff and my *** was rite out wired for the better part of 6 hours. If your not into that kind of stuff then your going to be screwed because that long *** straight road will get into your mind and play some friggin crazy tricks on you. Dont give in to those loony truck drivers that try to race you like its some kind of Isle of Man TT race you either let them go or you smoke the **** out of them and be prepaired if a couple or a bunch of those crazy truck drivers wants to play hop scotch in the death machine with you cause, hey face it, they are bored too.
Re: ~Road Trip~
thanks for all of this help everybody!
i've definetly never done anything like this before.. i think im gonna turn it into an actual trip, and stop like 3 times overnight somewhere along the way. there's no way i could drive all the way there. not to mention, my dog is gonna be with me, and she needs breaks too. lol.. but im more worried about the car than me..
ha, i wish i could sprout wings.. i'd grab on to my car with all my stuff in it and just fly it to where im goin. im sure that'd be a whole lot easier! lol
oh and sorry billkisme.. thats completely in the wrong direction. ive never even been up or over there before. have u always been there?

it's not happening just yet, but soon i believe. im just tryin to get prepared for it. mentally, physically, and most of all, have everything with the car ready to go. it's not a round-trip drive either, so there's gonna be a lot of weight from my stuff in there too.. hope that doesnt mess up anything.
i hope i can say i love em after all this! we shall see!
Re: ~Road Trip~
lol.. that's exactly how i was with my mitsubishi eclipse.. that's the reason i sold it before i moved up here, bc i didnt even think she could make it to the first state line. she was beautiful, but there's no way she could have made it. i do miss her, a lot. but i think my civic can do it.
Re: ~Road Trip~
Oh hell yea, I have been driving up that way for sometime now. And used to live there untill I moved down south. I used to take I20 over and then I95 up but that sucks cause its like the tourist way and takes for eva'. Now I run I20 over to Birmingham I59 north to I80 then I flow ride onto some other friggin highways I cant remember cause by that time you are in the thick **** of the Apalachin mountains and there is always some crap about changeing directions due to construction. But either way I bypass all the crap in the major areas like Jersey and New York. Traffic is alot thinner if you stick to a more inland route than a coastal route.

Dam, cross country tour? XD
Just make sure u do all ur checks and maint beforehand and you'll be fine
Oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid, radiator fluid, tire pressure
Couple months back, I drove down to Riverside, 480'ish miles, stayed for about 30 mins, picked up a friend, and drove 480 miles back :3
You should be fine.
