Hey guys, new to the forums here. I've always liked hondas, especially civics and accords. I drive my grandpa's 94 civic dx quite a bit, and love everything about it. I am now thinking about buying one myself. I came across a 2001 civic lx(4 door) with 150,000 miles on it. That mileage seems kinda high to me, but I know hondas are some of the most reliable and dependable vehicles out there. My question is, is it worth buying?(the dealer is asking 4k for it).

IMO $4K seems high for a 150K mile 2001 LX. A lot of the 2001's had transmission issues, but if it's made it to 150K without any problems, then maybe it's ok.

I had a 2001 EX with around 155K when I sold it. Just to give you an idea, I took it to Carmax in LA and they would do $2K. So they would probably fix it up and sell for $3K maybe, or even sell it at an auction.

Yeah 4k seems a bit high. Try talking the guy down to ~3.2k. Also 2001 manual tranny is bulletproof but the auto tranny is one of the worst that Honda ever made. Tons and tons of problems so be very careful if it's auto because it might crap out on you very soon especially at that mileage. Fyi 2002 is the same deal but at 2003 and after it's progressively better.

I'll do ya one better! I got an '02 lx 4-door auto with 141,xxx. I paid $4,000 just a few months ago and I'll give it to ya for 3k!

But, in all honesty, if this thing is an automatic, I would ask for some service records. If that tranny has been neglected for the first 150,000 miles, then, that neglect may be the only thing holding it together!

The price totally depends on what part of the country. In Wisconsin I just sold a 2001 civic LX manual with 151,000 miles and a SALVAGE title for $3500. And as for - the tranny was toasted on that thing. Had to double clutch to get into second lol. No disrespect tho... coulda been b/c it was salvaged...

It is an automatic transmission by the way, so im gonna keep looking for other civics instead of this 2001 lx.

What I mean by bulletproof is that it'll never break down when used by someone who knows what they're doing and how to drive it properly. The previous driver could've grinded it like mad. The 7th gen manual tranny is bulletproof in the hands of something even half competent.
