2002 Intrest

Hey guys im new to the board and to civics. Im looking at a 2002 civic five speed as a comuter and project car. My question is how reliable and tunable are these cars? I see lots of products for 01's but nothing for 02's?

Re: 2002 Intrest

01 and 02s are pretty much the same since they're the same generation of Civic. There are probably minor changes here and there, but most stuff should fit. As with anything, putting more stuff on your car, you run the risk of reducing the reliability of said car. I guess it depends. The autos seemed to be the ones with the most issues. I haven't really heard of much with the manuals. I think the 01 manuals had some synchro issue, but you'll have to do some research about that.

Re: 2002 Intrest

01 did have more issues than 02, since it was the first new generation year. as far as parts compatibility, there are many differences depending on the year and trim level. as a general rule, most engine mods will work for 01-05 any engine, and 01-03 has the same exterior features. interiors were slightly different for each year.

Re: 2002 Intrest

I've never needed to replace a part on my 02 that wasn't part of regular maintenance and i've owned it for 6 years, I'd say that's reliable.

Most parts are interchangeable or available for for every year and model of 7g civics.

Re: 2002 Intrest

if you are looking for a fun car to mod, great on gas, and very reliable (manual trans), then the civic is for you.

there are a billion aftermarket parts and the market is pretty big.

just dont expect to many any power with ur stock D17 engine, cuz you wont. the only way to make power is to swap the engine to a K series
